I have tryed to persuade several people to visit the Burtonwood airbase but no one wanted to come. Finally I decided to venture over today to find they were having an open day.

Why are they pulling it down?

I would love to drive my car up that roof like in the Italian Job.

I think those rusty thingymajobs are transformers and associated switch gear - someone here will know better than me!

Id second that thought, they look like transformers, i love the sound they make mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I love the picture of the transformer on its side, hope it wasnt live when that happened

The technical name for those installations is "Mechanical and Engineering Plinth" and yes they are transformers. There we usually at least 5 dotted around most WW2 era airfields. They just distributed electricity around the various parts of the airfield.
