History

I don't have much information on this place, but suffice to say that this old sanatorium was built during the 1940s and apparently left empty after the end of the war for many years. At some point it became a nursing home, but around five years ago its residents were forced to move out after a raid on owners and staff by immigration police.

When the Border Agency officers raided the place there were more than 100 beds there, but only thirty-six residents registered.

The Photos

These photos were taken at the end of 2015, once on a visit on my own and the second time with Sonic67. The weather was awful, so most of the skies have that horrible 'white out', but never mind.

I didn't venture inside - the place has power on, as you can see, and there are cameras all around the outside and some inside too. Signs say it is monitored by a security company, although no sign of life when I was there.

I don't find this place terrible attractive: it's more like a prison, or some kind of MOD office block place, although bits of it are clearly Art Deco. I suspect the inside would actually be quite boring, as you can see in through some of the windows (look at the second to last photo to see what I mean!). Most rooms are pretty dull and featureless really, with mattresses, wardrobes etc, and old televisions left behind. The one room I could take a reasonable photo of actually stank of wee (could smell it through the window). Nice!

For anyone going there be careful, particularly at night, as there is a very deep, person-sized hole in the grounds. Fall down there and you'd never get out. I suspect it's part of the sewerage system.

What an odd one. Its so grim, yet theres something scarily comforting about it.
Proper odd! Stil fantastic shots and report, thanks for taking the time for sharing it with us! :)

Looks like a cool place too explore. It looks almost completely free of vandalism too which is a bonus. Also strange that the lights are on, if no ones home...

I think the lights are on just to deter people from getting in, and the only vandalism seems to be the airgun damage to glass.
