Visited this site, which is located on the same estate as Eastend House which most people are familiar with. The usual history applies to this ruin:mad:... ie Beautiful family mansion, used as billet during the war which sadly was the start of its demise, it fell into disrepair and due to the oppressive taxes in the aftermath of WW2 the owner removed the roof to reduce property tax. He also auctioned off all fixture and fittings, windows etc etc and left behind what you see today. In 2006 the family, friends and supporters of the carmichael estate all chipped in £100 each to try and preserve whats left. Too little too late comes to mind but hey thats hindsight for you. :icon_evil

I was unable to get the whole site in one shot so you have to imagine that the buildings are in the shape of a H which is made up of two mirror image buildings facing each other with a long corridor joining the two in the middle, which had the tower in its centre. unlike anything i have seen before.

Evidence of some money spent in an attempt to safen and stablise the structure. A door, no longer of any use was once barring the stairs which lead up 3 floors on to rotten boards.

Red bricks to the right of the fireplace, further evidence of 'too little too late' money spend.

I am facinated by these vaulted ceilings, how you begin to make a structure like this?? and it was done over 200 years ago too. the stones seem to defy gravity.

Lovely photos, been meaning to find this place AND to go back to East End House. Must try harder!

When I visited the place I was in the room at the end of that corridor taking pictures, turned around & there was an old guy looking at me through the window! Nobody there when I walked in, turned around & he was just there! Nearly **** myself!!

Also had a pheasant fly at me whilst walking around the back of the other building!

I enjoyed your report and pics, it’s a shame that such a lovely old place has been allowed to slowly decay, but unless things like this happen what the hell would we do at the weekends? Thanks for Sharing.

Thanks for the report, some good pics there. I've visited Eastend a few times but never made it to Carmichael yet. Sadly, Eastend is heading the same way as this one :(
