Here are an amalgamation of all the High Royds photos that I have taken over 5 separate, wonderful visits with KooK. I only rue the fact that neither of us had the inclination to explore places such as this when they were in their Urban Exploration "heydey" so to speak...

The atmosphere that High Royds exudes, even now in its overgrown, semi-developed, dereliction is still one of proud beauty. Such phenomenal Architecture and detail, a true English wonderment, lost in part, and in typical fashion to developer's greed and in part... to nature and the elements.

On with the photos:

One of the many many loos. We came across a location where someone had neglected to use one in a big way. Whoever that was, shame on you.

I wish I knew why they'd painted these rooms black, hardly conducive to providing a nice atmosphere for patients.

Thanks for checking by, hope you enjoyed my humble documentation of this mighty site.

Good stuff, glad you didnt miss the boat on this one....

nice compilation dude, I'm sure we'll be able to squeeze in a couple more visits before its gone

Nice to see it being done still. If its where im thinking of, the ward with the black paint was used as a set in a tv series.

Hi Goldie,

Thanks for that, it has been a brilliant series of explores over the last 2 months.

I don't think that part was used in a TV series, the building I definitely know was used for filming the Hat Trick / BBC series "Bodies" was the one documented from the photo of "compliments" to the dead blue tit (Male Sick & Infirm block)

Also the infectious diseases annexe was used in "Heartbeat" (I think) as there are acid etched windows that purport the building to be affiliated with the Police.

Can anyone shed any more light on parts that have been used for filming?

J.

Excellent pictures from both far and anear.
The analogies could begin with the darkened brooding sky of chaos, reigning down in a torrent of black-red rivulets from an angered god,far above and beyond the academically thought out reasoning of the Victorians academic bricks and mortar.
Beneath these unfathomable heavens then, with barely a pause for the tranquilization of hyperdermic needle No 14,we begin scratching the mustard gas yellow that sticks to our skin, till we scratch to the poisoned bone.
We are then wheeled down a near endless corridor to the Conformity Assessment Body, whereupon it is deemed that we should be wheeled forever further down; through the depths of the eternal corridors of insanity.
Spare a saddening thought for the insane, for it is upon four hundred milligrams three times a day of Ibuprofen that all sanity depended.
I guess all the fun pharmaceuticals where taken by the doctors and nurses, whilst playing at - well! doctors and nurses.
The spider graveyard is a new one on me,never have I seen the like of it before.
I love all those endless corridors of peeling paint, who would think there could be such variety in styles of peel. Most enjoyable tour, many thanks.:)

Liked the pics. You've really captured the atmosphere of the place, especially the corridor shots and the sense of space in the "Classic Royds" shot.

Sad to see the Hook rescue knife cabinet but I guess that was the reality of places like this and they had to think of such things in advance.
