Garforth Colliery - Take Two

So unperturbed by my previous failing, I have returned hoping to evade my previous fortune of been kicked into 'the pit' and beyond based on a difference of interpretation of the term 'derelict place' .. lets see how it goes !

The disused colliery is based in West Yorkshire. This is the sister site and comprises of two separate buildings. Closed in the 1960's.

Strangely access is through the front door .....

I always hope to see a bloody great big hole disappearing down into the depth of the earth. (Probably just as well they capped them off!) As for collieries, well, as a born and bred Welshman, I remember the camaraderie of the mines - my dad worked all his life as a miner. (I escaped) To think of the hard work all those men put in for generations, only for a certain PM to decide that even recoverable, economic coal was of naught compared to defeating an entire industry.

Whole communities destroyed, but my! What hearts they had.
