Milford Mill is a cotton spinning mill which was opened by Jedediah Strutt after he bought land on the Derwent between Matlock and Derby in 1781 during the Industrial Revolution. This mill is one of a series of mills contructed on the Derwent.
With this mill, and a similar one in Belper, Strutt built long rows of worker's houses in the area. The mills are now part of Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
The current 5.5 acre site is unused and plans are in place to turn the whole area the mill sits on into 70 dwellings. Part of the mill will be refurbished for commercial accommodation.
