Houghton Grange has a massive story behind it! I could talk for years about the site as it is one of my favourite sites i have ever been to! Heres the history narrowed down!
In 1897 The Grange was built. Back then it was a house. Its garden was massive and required 6 voulenteer gardeners to look after it!
In 1948 Houghton Poultry Research Station was established (I believe the man who established it was Mr Rank as his name is carved into the building). The station didn't just test on poultry but also tested on cattle, beagles and some more! They tested some mad things there like mad cow disease. The site closed in March 27 1992 due to the cruelty inside there!
What if it didnt close!?
If the site didn't close in 1992 it would of closed in 2015 because that was the date the owners of the site predicted it would close at!
In 1993 an extention was supposed to be built onto the east wing of the main building. It was supposed to go all the way towards laboratory X. I know this from files we found there! The Grange has also got a basement but the door is locked so you cannot accsess it!
Anyway enjoy the pics
