Visited this place janovitch and man gone wrong a while back.all that's left of a huge former iron works, this small bit although still huge itself is adjoined by a live bit so some careful treading was needed, although peering through the white sheets separating it looked like no one was working there.we spent ages in here and the place is pretty stripped out,but there was some nice bits left and the colours and light was worth going for in here.sadly this place went the same way as many other industrial places.and I heard that this last bit may be demolished and the whole area redeveloped.what I liked about here was there was no vandalism at all.

The waste metal would be tipped into here to be melted down to be used in production

A large crane with grabbing claws were used to move the scrap metal from the bay.

Thank you all for the lovely comments.you can't beat a good bit of industry

Interesting place but sadly quite stripped out too. The lathe, shaping machine and mill look to be in fair condition albeit a little dirty! Surprised they've not been hit with hammers. Good finds those.
I think using the sink will make you dirtier!

What did the foundry make? Looks to have been ferrous components??

We had a similar foundry up near Blyth in Northumberland - Vald Birn. It made brake components for the automotive industry. Castings were done there but sent to Birmingham for finishing by machines. Smelting was done by electric furnaces and with being close to the former Blyth Power Station they had a discounted electricity supply. They closed because in the space of 1 year their electricity bill doubled from £1 million to £2 million!!
I wonder if energy prices have killed this foundry too?

The shaper, mill and lathe were outdated before they were installed in this place! Classic case of the British 'make do' attitude trying to compete with Continental firms using 'state of the art' machines and tooling. When I started work in the early 60's, some of the equipment in the workshops was 'Lend Lease' WW2 in origin. Worked continuously flat out during the War; it was now doing the same when the Country was trying to compete in the world wide, export market. Only snag was Germany, Italy and Japan were using the latest, modern equipment!
