Hi all had a wonder around here ,this place was used for training (NO 93 training group bomber command)with the likes of
81 OTU Wellingtons
1665 HCU Stirlings/Halifax/Horsa gliders
1380 CU Wellingtons
plus Whitleys /Ansons/Marinets for support
here goes

It was used as a turret trainer,the metal framing is called the "Hemisphere" the 25ft projection bowl that surrounded it has collapsed some years ago ,hope that sheds some light for you
