Hi All

Me and Fluffy took a trip over to the former RAF base at Kenley, having see a few posts about a possible battle HQ.

THERE AIN`T ONE THERE...................

What can be seen in a few pictures is an Anti Aircraft gun possion on top of a defended fighter pen.
see below:-

The next port of call was what looks like an underground bunker.
Sorry again, it`s the very top of another defended fighter pen only this one has been back filled and
then grassed over.

If you go through the small gap all you will find is a big steel gate, but through the gate you can see
the "run" of the shelter and at the far end a wooden door.

The last shot is of one of the fighter pens that have been cleaned up, all the entrances to the shelters
that run both sides are sealed up tight.

There in a pill box just off the site over the other side of the main road but it`s well covered up, if you cross
the road from the war memorial and head back towards Kenley itself you might just see it, along with an
M&EE hut in a field.

Comments are welcome

I think it was worth it just to get that shot of the defended shelter! I meant to say that on DOB there's a Hamilton-Pickett marked on the east side of the runway. I don't know if its still there, but I have seen the top of it!

Nice one, I too have heard about this, but never seen any pics.

Good work on squeezing through the hole.

used to live on kenley airfield for about 5 years. the Pickett hamilton is still there as i said in another post about the gliding club actually raising it then struggling to get it down due to a faulty return valve lol . lots of interesting features around the airfield also iirc there are some bofors emplacements nearby.
