Hi all
First day of our family holiday, staying over night in Folkestone so it would be rude not to pop along to Dover to do a little underground exploring.
First port of call was Noah`s ark shelter, having some info from a forum member that it was in a derelict builders yard turned out not to be quite true, it`s now a building site which is a bit of a bugger on a week day, so thanks to Mrs Newage who said there is a green hi viz in the boot of the car.
best way to blend it is to look like every body else.
The tunnel was originally built to house a water main but in 1939-40 it was converted in to a public air raid shelter, said to be able to house 850 people.
It is only a single boar tunnel with small side passages off to the left and right, these look like toilet blocks. There are a few bits and bobs still in place. Oh and I missed all the WW2 graffiti.
Pictures.....

In the middle section on the wall is an old fuse box.
3
Along the length of the tunnel there are passages left and right, these where toilet blocks.
4
The tunnel is long and straight but it does have blast walls at the top end.
5
Looking down in to the shelter from the Noah`s ark road entrance (sealed), the shelter was opened up to the public a few years ago but this has stopped now.
6
Well that will do for a start, oh go on one more "arty" shot.
Thanks for looking, all comments are most welcome.
If you want to see a few more pictures head on over to my FlickR site at:-
