Hi All
Next up on our Gibraltar trip was Calpe hole.
This is the location of Calpe hospital and Calpe power generating station, it is all part of the Great North road complex, for a bit of history see my report on the "Great North Road".
This was all part of our Subbrit trip with our MOD guide.
The Generation station is split in to two sections - Air filtration plant and the power generation plant.
The power plant comprises of three GEC/Fullagar six cylinder vertically opposed two stroke diesel 1 megawatt gen sets and a Ruston Hornsby gas turbine.(Text from D-UK).
Form a chat with our MOD guide the power plant last saw action in 1974 or there abouts and the roof is in amazing condition as its made out of "Stainless steel".
First up - Filter rooms.
Then a short walk along more dark passages and you end up in the underground generating hall.
The control equipment for this place is amazing.
Right that will have to do, thanks for looking and thanks to the Subbrit guys who sorted the visit and our MOD guide, an amazing place.
There are more pictures on my FlickR site so head on over too:-
