Severalls Hospital - June 2012
This is my first report so apologies in advance if it is not quite right
I have seen many excellent reports made on the buildings so I shall keep the text to a minimum.
Having only visited the once, I have found like many others, that this place gets under your skin and even though it is totally trashed, it still has a certain quality. It is incredibly photogenic even in advanced decay.
The hospital is more infamous than famous because of the experimental surgery performed on the patients during the 1950’s. This included ECT through to frontal lobotomies on some patients. Building began in 1910 and opened in 1913. It closed in 1997 and has remained at the mercy of vandals, arsonists and Mother Nature. There are plans to redevelop the site.
Much more history can be found via Wikipedia and other similar sites.
I hope you like my take on the Severalls, as I very much doubt that there isn’t much that hasn’t been photographed already. So trying to be different was a real challenge.
On with the images.
Thank You for looking
