Well, after an unplanned solo explore of the old Ashton&Moore building, I had a walk down here to look at what would have been back-to-backs at one point. There are some very well worn paths leading through the under growth to this place. It is so often used by druggies that they even leave their rubbish bags by the access point!!!
I got into the end building clostest to the road, but there was so much fresh(WET!) blood in there alongside needle, foil etc I just wanted to get out incase I woke whoever it was living in there. NOT a nice place, and due to be demo'd this week according to the flyer.
I can belive it as the work has resumed at the Mint, PCG glass is about to be torn down, and most of the other buildings on that road have now been flattened to make way for a 77 room hotel. Things are finally moving to clean this dump up!!:)

And you think the 77 Room hotel will be better?

Well its making use of derelict land and providing jobs for people in the area - I cannot see what the problem is personally. Better being built here then in another out of town greenfield development.

I don't object to the concept of redevelopment but really another hotel? Have you ever gone on holiday to Birmingham? The Jewelry Qtr is an industrial area and should remain the home for small manufacturing businesses. I object to the endless quest to turn the country into a service based economy. Therefore building endless (shit looking) hotels is not what I would consider progress.

I see where your coming from, and though I'm not that well informed on the economics of the UK, I agree that the economy should rely on more then just offices. On the other hand however judging by the state of these buildings, there seems to be little hope for traditional industries in the area.

Surely anything is better than a drug den. Having been in one yesterday I can't say they are nice places, rather grim in fact (Thompski will agree)
Industry would be better of course, providing more jobs, but a hotel will provide jobs AND attract investment in the area.
