Hello guys

Iv seen alot of people talking about this site but no one has put any real amount of pictures up. Now I went there today not even knowing what it was until I came home and did some research, Unfortunately I still now very little, I now it was closed some time in the 70s and that it is a Colliery which you wouldnt guess looking at it! Any way if any one nows any thing about this place please feel free to add some info. Im going to stop writing now and show you my pictures.

P.S thanks to (RP9524) for coming with me dont think I would have gone on my own.

Thanks for looking. :)

I really do feel silly for my assumptions of what the buildings where, i was wrong on them all lol

But was alot of fun, a real shame about all the fire damage, but i dont think its going to be here much longer so its good to see it.

Been a while since I last visited, BigLoada is the chap to tell you a lot more about the place though.

Here's a wider view of the site from part way up the hill:

One memory I do have, dunno if anyone who's familiar with the site will know the answer too - in the early 90's there was a guy living on the site in a caravan who had an absolute sh/t-load of stray dogs that he'd taken in, he'd built a kinda little compound there - anyone know what became of him? I know he'd also been at a site in Seghill for a while (within Jollie's turf yard) prior to that...

I see you're starting to get around. ;)

After a quick Google I found this:

http://www.dmm.org.uk/colliery/e025.htm

There is lots of info out there mate - this site goes by quite a few names!

I had passed the place last week (camera-less) and did notice they are now pumping water into the burning spoil heap (the one you climbed  ) and after that they will begin landscaping the place. I expect the buildings to go with it.
Your last pic is inside the winder house - those huge bolts held down the motors and drums. The winder was removed to another site - Woodhorn Colliery. It can be seen upstairs in the big square building there. Ask a member of staff and they may take you to see it working. :)

Did you find the red underwear in there? BigLoada did.

Nice report mate - keep em coming!

You can tell it was a colliery in Northumberland by the yellow bricked buildings, The same style bricks were at Cambois and Blyth's. Some Buildings from Cambois' still stand and Blyth's were only demolished a couple of years ago.

Great pics.

ive been to this place it has a very erie atmosphere. i did some digging about the place and i found that 60 people were ment to have died down in the mine.

Mine and BL's first explore, nearly 2 years ago. I haven't been able to do much since then (birth of a baby daughter who takes up lots of my time!) - but it was a good first experience. I couldn't make it into the winder house, due to being too big for the access point. BL got in for a good look around and also took a cracking shot of some red knickers. I bet he'd been there before and left them there by accident.

About a mile along the road is the remains of Earsdon Colliery, you can see it from Fenwick. Looks like most of the buildings there though are in use.
Fenwick Colliery looks somewhat different to others - the buildings, architecture, layout, etc.

Btw, contractors have started work on landscaping the spoil heap now.
