My house built in 1929 was suffering from ground movement, with one corner 250mm lower than the opposite corner, and cracks in the walls. All the internal doors swung open or shut, with a very noticeable slope on the floors.

Well,I have seen it all now,exploring ones own house whilst its being demo`d has to be a first!

I have the same problem, my house has subsidance . My doors also either swing open or shut !!
Was built on an old clay pit filled in.
It been up 40 years and has not fell down yet, it seems to have settled now.
I have seen some houses in ex mining towns with real bad movement problems due to mine shafts falling in below foundations.
Its true, once a house has moved substantially , there is little the insurance companies can do except offer to re build your property on better foundations . (usually they will try to wriggle out of doing anything though as they dont want to pay up ! )

THE ODEON
 
It took a while (15 years ) for the insurance to finally pay up, but we eventually got a reasonable settlement ;) and we were able to build a nice new modern house with the additional input of some extra cash.

But we are still having window problems, with all the windows due to be replaced... soon.

Just before demolition, our late teenage kids had a party, and the place got a bit trashed. ( So don't let your kids have an unsupervised party at your house!)

I managed to salvage some stuff, and got several hundred pounds for all the floorboards, the doors, velux windows, electrical stuff.

It must be a weird and not entirely pleasant experince seeing your home being the demolished.
