Evening Guys,
On the occasion of my birthday :tumbleweed, I had tried to get in Fairmile Hospital, but was caught by security within 10mins. Therefore still determined to celebrate the occasion in some small way... and after being thrown out of Fairmile I decided to drive to the easier RAF Upper Heyford, despite being told it was fairly striped.
My explore centred mainly around the High School, as this intrigued me the most, with a brief visit to the accommodation blocks, and mess hall.
Later I met up with Landieman who took me on a guided tour of the Aylesbury Odeon, where my camera in its unfathomable infinte shiteness gave up the ghost.
History
Upper Heyford High School was established in the autumn of 1966, in a former World War II prisoner of war barracks. Most of the students and faculty came from American bases across the Channel after the French President Charles DeGaulle withdrew France from military involvement with NATO and ordered the American armed forces to leave.
There was an elementary school and a junior high school at Upper Heyford at the time, but high school students attended Lakenheath High School, staying in dorms during the school week and returning home on weekends. However after the influx of Americans from France at Heyford, there were far too many new students for Lakenheath to accommodate, and there wasn't time to build a new high school. It was therefore decided to utilize the WWII POW old barracks and found Upper Heyford High School. Maroon and white was selected as the school colors, and Rick Hunter '68 and Mike Brown '69, came up with the school nickname, the Hadites.
In the autumn of 1975, the school closed at Upper Heyford and was moved to RAF Croughton, but was still called Upper Heyford High School until the end of the Spring semester in 1982, when it became Croughton High School.
With the end of the Cold War and reduction of American forces in Europe, CHS was closed in 1997, bringing an end to the Hadite legacy.
Today
The site stands vacant, with no current plans in a level of decay some people on here love, and others hate.
Water tower, sadly too difficult to climb
Main Assembly Hall
Boiler room
Gauge porn
One of the many classrooms
Staircase in the Mess Hall
One of the Accomodation blocks, explored but rather empty
Regards,
