Wikipedia gives a far more in depth description than I could do justice to the airfields short life as a 2nd World War airbase.
There is quite a bit more to see than is shown in my rather scant photos,there are no access problems as public roads run throughout the whole area.It is very close to Brown Willy which is Cornwalls highest piont and would make for a good day out for anybody staying in the area.Be careful not to drive down the main runway as I did,as it is now used by light aircraft.

All in all it is a great place to visit encompasing both 2nd World War memrabilia and some great lonely moorland vistas.

This is one of my favourite places of all time. It is one of the highest airfields in the UK at roughly 1000 feet and as such flying used to be often curtailed by low cloud and sea mist. This was a RAF Coastal Command airfield and aircraft such as Warwicks, Whitleys and Beaufighters flew from here on anti-submarine and search and rescue missions. There is a superb new book charting the history of the airfield that can be obtained from the Boscastle or Tintagel visitors centre. It is nice to see that flying continues here with light aircraft and microlights often being seen in the circuit.

One of the things I love about derelict airfields, is how windswept and lonely they are...very different to how they would have been back then. This one's even better! I love that barreness about it. Some good remains by the look of it, too.
