Eastry Brick Works - Kent - October 10

Eastry Brick Works is situated just outside Sandwich in Kent. This place was up and running until a few years ago, mining the clay for the bricks just over the road from the site.
The main buildings were actually Locamotive Buildings for the old railway that used to run along this section, and I believe it use to help feed the coastal defences in WW2. Old Nissan huts remain behind the main buildings.
The site is currently up for sale.

I think they are bags of wool, no money in the stuff anymore, and thank you foxylady, I wasn't sure if I had spelt Nissen correctly, and I hadn't.

I can never remember which version it is either, and have to look it up each time. :lol:

The vaulted roof and build detail in the brickwork is first rate. I'd be proud to own a building like that.

The buildings are actually the remains of the never completed Woodnesborough Colliery. Coal was never mined here in the end, the out break of WW1 meant construction ceased and it never continued at the end of the war. The land and buildings were brought by Hammill Brick Co who open a brickworks at the site in 1927.
