We first visited last year but neglected to take any photos! So over the bank holiday we stopped in here, In order to get a few photos and have a chilled out drink at the top.

A substantial amount of buildings have been demolished to make way for (yes you guessed it) posh flats. But one large modern building, The victoran administration sections and an old crane remain.

At present the site seems to be used for a store point for a motley collection of barges and Ellen Mc arthurs B&Q catamaran.

The main Point of interest is the Large rail mounted dock crane which is a rewarding climb, having various ladders running out to the boom and up to the windings.

We just had the one camera with us so these shots are something of a joint effort. They arnt fantastic but then we were a little rushed to get to our final location.

Ive not really done much photoshop work on them at all, just the levels and borders. The one at the top may have had different white balance settings, but I dont remember off the top of my head.

This crane has now been dismantled. The developers were supposed to keep it as a tribute to the ship building works which stood there for 100 years before demolition. Instead of keeping the crane, they recently took a gas axe to it. No doubt it's already been melted for scrap.....

The Cranes from our Swan Hunter shipyard up in Newcastle were loaded up onto a very very large barge the other day and set sail for a new life in an Indian ship yard. Some of the smaller ones were cut up for scrap
