Tolgus Calciner Redruth.
I pass this place almost daily while walking the dog looked around it dozens of times; it has been used as a store, a doss house and has always been a hangout for the local chavs.
I came across a mention of it while searching the web for something else and decided to take a closer look. One of my better ideas.

The vertical steel bars were there to prevent the building from collapsing due to the intense heat generated during processing.
Getting a decent head on shot of the furnace is a bit awkward due to the ramshackle building added at a later date and collapsing in on itself,
took this shot from the path leading to the upper level.
One of the advantages of being a little fella, once I got into here I could almost straighten up.
and well worth the effort it was.
This is where the processed rock discharged from the furnace was collected.
To get a look at what was left of the machinery above the discharge chute was a bloody tight squeeze.
The equipment I have couldn’t do it justice; it is in my view an awesome piece of engineering and casting skill.
The room to move around here is negligible
The second floor is the one that has had the most attention from the local Chavs, they haven’t done much damage to it.
The hopper to feed rock to the furnace,
The roof still looks reasonably able to last awhile yet
Evidence of the flue system and condensing chambers are still visible,
And you can follow them the half mile or so to the stack that discharged the fumes.
