Earlier this week Dave and myself took another look around the former coal resarch establishment. It was one of the principal resarch sites for the NCB and later British coal before being broken down when the industry was privatised. Under the NCB the Efficient fluidised bed boiler was invented here as was coal liquifcation for the production of oil from coal.
All manner of strange things left on site from resarch into coal powered cars to test houses rigged with sensors for resarch on domestic use. There were the remenants of numerous experiments with new boilers, Gasification procedures, Generators and Ovens.
Its not a big site, nor is it the most archiecturally amazing, The majority of the buildings being modest sheds. The interest lies in the considerable tecnological developments that took place here and the reminants of the resarch.
Coal Storage bunkers
I think its a test generator
Buildings
Test Facilitys
Trial Sectional Boiler
Experimental Coke ovens
Outside Again,
Labs near the Coal liquification area
