the smaller building is very intact but lots of interesting mould!

the bigger building is not so intact but it has some interesting features like this strange spiral chute from the top floor to the bottom. it was tempting to slide down it but it would probably end in disaster.

that seems likely but it didnt look like it could process much flour, certainly not on a commercial basis.

and why do it three floors up? the grain must have been poured through the roof??

maybe they only produced samples or something

i just found out today that the company that used the bigger building was called Nutting and Speed and they did grain seed trials in the surrounding fields. they were only ever producing samples so that explains the relativly small work areas compared to a proper mill.

Looks like a little friendly version of the Wainford Maltings in Bungay. I love the bizarre little fixtures and fittings you find in these places that don't seem like they could ever have had much of a practical purpose.
