it`s such a shame when great building`s become disused and fall derelict and this workhouse hospital is no exception opened in 1909 due to the poor law union and this would of held many frail and ill people from the workhouse, the workhouse is long demolished and now is the site of a nursing home..but this site lay in the hands of the nhs for years and in 2006 the closure was announced and was to hit 3 hospitals in the stoke area which as it happens all evolved from workhouses...so you can imagine how poor stoke was back then. but this complex is due to close in September but a lot of the buildings are empty now and falling into decay ! so we drew our plans and had a early morning visit. and these are the pictures.........i better add the location is now known as the WESTCLIFF HOSPITAL.... the complex is just like another outstanding workhouse called wordsley.
