The Fletcher Convalescent Home opened on 25 April 1893. The hospital was administered by the Governors of the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. The building was designed by E Boardman & Son and is unlisted. It was, however, in the Victorian Society’s 2008 top-10 list of endangered buildings. Absorbed into the NHS during the 20th century, the home was converted into a geriatric unit which closed in 1998. In 1999 the complex was sold for development. Planning permission for its conversion to housing has been granted, but the requirement for some of the accommodation to be affordable housing has proved a sticking point, and this has delayed work on the building for several years. Until a solution can found, the former Fletcher Convalescent Home sits rotting, its stained glass windows smashed and open to the elements, deteriorating with every passing day. A fire, believed to have been started by vandals, recently caused further damage to the structure. A modern hospital for the rehabilitation of the elderly – the Benjamin Court Hospital – adjoins the complex in the west. Visited with Lost Tom. The Pics

Thanks for looking:)

Very interesting place. I have that tagged for my next norfolk work trip.

Thanks OMJ I've been here before but not awful long time. There was a rumour that the place had been burned down to the ground, but it's still pretty intact.

I enjoyed it there but it creeped my daughter out, was the working phone still there in the room with sofas ? We picked it up and it had a dial tone !! Nice set if pics

very nice work bud lovely looking building well theres another on the to--do list lol

Lol, it was very strange that phone, in what was a very obliterated hospital

Yeah it is one hell of a creepy place!
I was gonna ring home, but thought better of it :D

Hi. Wow. Love the style of this building! Looks like the roof is still holding up pretty well against the rain?

Would have been hard to resist trying to place a phone call, I think. But would've creeped me out, too! Is there a private owner that could have set up an account/still be paying the phone bill, I wonder? (For emergencies. If they happened to be out there… still, one would think a mobile would be the thing for that nowadays!)
