C.A.S.Emplacement update

Just a quick update of the Coastal Artillery Searchlight on Seaton seafront. The council said they were going to secure it, and they did! I'm well impressed, as they've cleaned and painted it inside and out, and placed a metal-grille door on the entrance.
I'll post some links to the previous threads with history and photos of the inside (when I can find them!

)

Thats great news its so rare any councils do any thing they say there going to do.

I know! I was amazed when I saw it as they kept wittering on about not having enough money...usual stuff! :lol:

They've done an excellent job of it. It's a shame that more of the uk councils don't do more to protect our former defences etc. They're more likely to have them de-listed (if they are listed) and demolished rather than preserve them.

Absolutely, Sal!
Although it's taken the council long enough to do anything about the Seaton defence remains, which are important ones (Whereas in Sidmouth where the council is situated, they did a tourist job on their own paltry little pillbox

), in all fairness, they haven't tried to get rid of them. The C.A.S is up for sale, but will still be listed so has to be maintained as it is...that is definitely on my wish-list for Christmas!

It's CASL... for some reason they take search light as two words in WW2 papers!

Great news that they're preserving it though.

Sadly, not long after, some scrofulous little toerag got inside and tagged over the white wall. :icon_evil Had a walk up there a couple of days ago and the tag's mostly faded now though! :lol:
