Out with the family today so not exactly explore of the century, but this place is close to home & has some good history.
Harrington played a role in WW2 with some "unusual" missions from the USAAF, but what remains is mainly from the cold war.
I am sure you all know how close we were to WW3 (due to a misguided British ship in Russian waters I understand) but the fact becomes a whole lot more real standing on the potential launch site for one of or thor missiles.
I believe there were 60 thor missiles ready for launch in the UK, on the elusive 4min warning, unfortunately for us these take 50min to set & arm so its a good job WW3 never happened
Lots more info here. http://www.harringtonmuseum.org.uk/AirfieldHistory.htm

Over the other side is a "large wall" shooting range perhaps?

With a dog like that at least you don't need the excuse "I'm looking for my dog" when approached by a nosey member of the public !!

Nicely Done Glynn, You got some really good pics, I enjoyed it, Thanks.
