This is a re-visit as the first time I had a look round here it was brief, unplanned and I only had my camera phone. Hence thought it was time to have a proper look. Won't do the history bit again as you can find it here: Tapton Court: Previous Report

Not sure much has changed since my last mooch. This wonderful Grade II listed late 19th century pad built for Sheffield steel magnet John H Andrew is still owned by Sheffield University.

What I did find out in addition to the above is that there was a serious fire here in September 2010. This explains why the roof is in such good nick as Sheffield University must have had to make good the roof after the fire, due to the building's listed status. Fire brigade pictures of them tacking the fire here:

The site is sealed up like a tin of sardines plus there are CCTV cameras dotted around the place. Hence externals only, but given the exquisite stonework, well worthy of a report.

Another very nice set of images Hughie. But I stand by my original statement on your first post on this place - it's your 'eye' that sees the images and no matter what you use to record them, you will produce interesting and telling photographs every time. Pity the grounds are so overgrown now and sad that the tower roof was not reinstated to the original design - as I mentioned before, I thought lightening damage was the cause of the rebuilding, but it could also be due to water tanks being installed during the conversion to Hall of Residence status. Sadly from memory the interior has been somewhat 'mucked about with', but that exquisite exterior is worth seeing in the 'flesh' so to speak.

You've taken a few extra photos here compared with your last report but in a comment in your last report I said that you'll need a tin opener to get in, still the same.

Lovely work HD!

Im pleased to see you have your column orders correctly named, you just know you would be corrected if you called them Doric hahaha!

OOOooo I bet your itching to get inside by now! Would you like a tin opener???:nevreness:
