Burton County Court is a Grade II Listed building and was purposely designed and built as a County Court in 1862 in the typical styles of the period.
It is situated within the George Street Conservation Area of Burton upon Trent and was first saved from closure back in 2010. Three years later its fate was sealed when and the Georgian courtroom heard its final case. Government and local council cost saving measures have made these grand old buildings a burden, being more costly to run and maintain so closures have happened all over the country.
Its classical symmetrical stonework has “vermiculated rustications” which create a textural finish resembling worm tracks carved within its square block ashlar masonry…they look a bit like brains from a distant, you can’t help running your fingers over them, I think someone saw me doing this and got rather scared.
There were plans to redevelop the building into 9 apartments but at the moment it lies unoccupied and on the market to let. All County Court and family matters are now dealt with in Derby, fancy that.
Are you nicely chilled and mellow? No bailiffs trying to bash ya door in? No? Good...have a look at these whilst I go and hide…

There isn’t a load to see in this place but it still makes for a good explore even if there’s quite a few empty rooms.
