Visited in the excellent company of Bikin Glynn. On the way to Ambergate Wire works and Oakhurst House you pass these set of workers’ cottages. There are 5-6 terrace properties and a series of outbuildings which were used to house the workers of the nearby Johnson and Nephew wire works. They’ve clearly been boarded up for a while and last time I was here you could get in some of them, although like the wire works there seems to have been a concerted effort to keep them sealed. Recently - Thursday 20th September 2018 to be precise – somebody set one of the end terrace cottages on fire and now it’s a burnt-out wreck. So, nothing to get to excited about but worth a few pictures:

Think these were out-side toilets:

Mmmm. Think I’ll give access a miss on this occasion:

Now this place was a bit of a bonus. Spied it out of the corner of our eye when we were looking at the wireworks. It looks like this cute little two-up, two-down cottage was boarded up at the same time as the workers cottage row. It’s fared better but is now open. Not too much to see inside but worth a few pictures:

Not much in the out-house:

And on to the up-stairs. Master bedroom:

Would have made a cosy little house but can’t see much future for this place despite it currently being in reasonable nick:
