So after doing the ATC tower; we tried a couple of other local sites, but were sadly unsuccessful in our quest; and this absolute tower of hell came up locally.
I'm a believer in "if its there; may as well do it", I mean, its a day out isn't it? We drove to and parked right next to this scummy old block. I knew the inside would be disgusting. The building instantly had a nasty feel to it, and I don't feel that often about derelict places. It just felt as if you would catch something from it and it smelt horrible.
That said, the view from the roof is really nice, with various landmarks to see such as The Cardington Hangers. Once on the roof it was quite a nice, chilled spot to hang out and shoot landscape shots of Bedford and the surrounding areas. We avoided the main office areas off the landings, but got some quick internals after coming down from the roof.
It was another one off the list, another one to show my two non-explorer friends (introducing them to THE best hobby), it wasn't great, but we enjoyed it.
It was surprisingly quiet, with the slight din of local kids in the street, and the neighbouring hand car wash below.
There is very little in terms of history of this "wonderful" place The building has housed local authorities departments for Central Bedfordshire Council who later relocated to new offices.
This site became surplus to requirements. It seems to have since been sold a couple of times and has been granted planning permission for several different modifications since 2011, but no works have yet taken place.
There is so little info, but I guess it closed about ten years ago. The last company who bought it have since been dissolved, and the tower has been valued at 5 million on several estimate websites.
