I have recently been going through some of my old image archives and thought these may be of interest to some of you. I took them 20 years ago (September 2000) on my first digital camera a 3.5 megapixel Nikon Coolpix 990 3 years before the buildings and pool at the South Bay Pool in Scarborough were demolished.
The pool and surrounding buildings were designed by Harry W. Smith, Borough Engineer (1893-1930) and at one point was the largest outdoor pool in Europe. Construction began in 1914 and completed in 1915.
The images show the entrances to the changing rooms with their Corinthian style pillars and circular windows and also a close up of the corroded turn style entrance to the pool.
The buildings were demolished and the pool filled in, in 2003 3 years after these images were taken.
