With a message from Reaperman to say he was back down south, we arranged to take a look at some of the old haunts on the south coast. Neither of us had been to Hellingly for well over a year and remarkably, very little had changed.

Once inside we headed upstairs and made our way clockwise round the site. The first thing we did notice was the appearance of Surveyors marks, labelling individual areas with numbers and letters - a stern reminder that Hellingly won't exist in its current state for much longer.

We eventually headed towards the base of the tower, and onto the hall via a few interesting areas.

Reaperman eventually encouraged me to overcome vertigo and climb the stairs above the stage. The view from the window was great.

Finally, we headed over the other side of the hospital including staff accomodation and training areas.

After Hellingly, we headed west towards Shoreham and had a look at Shoreham cement works. The site is looking very busy, with a contstant in-flow of heavy traffic. There is also some brand new metal-work sat inside the premises. Would like to see what happens over the next year. We also passed Shoreham workhouse, it looks very much as though demolition will start there soon.

I did think Hellingly had changed quite a bit actually, Loads more vandalism its now nearly impossible to find an unbroken window. It was going that way in 2006 but I'm sure that things are definitely a notch worse.

Theres not a brass door handle to be found anywhere now!

Cracking mix of photos Mr B :)

Look like you had a successful day -nice weather too!
I guess it's not always that easy to tell the difference when it's already so trashed!!! ;)

Cheers mate, glad you like them. Saw your name in the dust there, didn't realise you'd been :)

Yup, Fieldy & me went there a few times -the last time being when we got stopped & searched after Mr. Security called in the Police -complete with dogs!:neutral:
Sure are some great views from above the Main Hall. Did ya have a "wander" up to the roof turret above the roof? Amazing views  -a cute dove was up there for company too :p
The Main Hall at Hellingly has got be be me fave, as the ceiling's not covered up like Denbigh :)

Love that sign for Shorham Cement Works -real period piece!

Lb:cool:

P.s. -how's things going by the way?

Hiya Lightbuoy. I'm afraid that walking above the stage was nerve-racking enough for me, the walkways above the hall itself look even more scary because of all the holes. Severalls was fine as you couldn't see how high you were (ignorance is bliss)

I would agree - Hellingly is one of my favourites too.

Things are going fine mate, how about you?
