I know this place has been done a few times, but I just wanted to add some extra photos and a current update.
I went here a few days ago with some mates as I saw it on this forum and it's close to where I live but I never knew it existed. I thought the main site across the road was all there was. I was very surprised to find this place remaining considering in Cambridge every little piece of unused land gets built on immediately.
Some history: The main building got demolished in 2008 and was used by various companies for agrochemical manufacturing since 1940. The land once the factory had been demolished was badly contaminated and the decontamination process took 8 years from beginning in 2006 to finishing in 2014 the wastewater plant was used in the decontamination process which is why it was still used until 2012. I remember walking the dog around Hauxton with my dad when I was a kid and as soon as you got past the Hauxton sign you could smell weedkiller chemicals, this was around 2012 when the decontamination process was underway which was when you could smell it the most. Fun fact: there is still a faint smell around the new housing estate in certain areas.
The explore: It was easy to get to, but if you go bring some decent shoes because there are lots of thorns and broken glass/metal around. It was a nice casual little wander there's not too much to see now as the labs were demolished a few years ago, I really wish I got to see them in person they looked so cool. There's a report from 2016 by Mookster which shows the labs if you are interested. The only building remaining is the squash court but is heavily trashed now.
and unfortunately, most of the good graffiti has been tagged over like the smoke and mirrors one. There is a tall bit you can climb up and get a nice view over the site.
Thanks for Looking hope you found this interesting
found this little thing I think it's a filter of some kind possibly from the labs.
some photos from my drone
you can see the new housing estate across the road where the main factory was.
