I took a drive out to Barry to recce some buildings I'd spotted on Google Earth. Most were non-starters, but I found a nice old looking factory with a large chimney that is boarded up, so I'll take a trip back there and have a closer look. Anyway, I digress. On the way home, I stopped off at Llandow knowing there is an empty hanger there, so I wanted to investigate. There is what looks to be a guard hut on the entrance to what is now a retail park (Places for Homes are in the adjacent hanger), which is boarded up...
Inside is unfortunately full of rubbish and assorted bits and bobs. Ooh, and two chairs. No empty building would be complete without at least one . There wasn't much of interest, but I took the opportunity to practice some light painting (This is my first try at it) as it was pitch black inside...
Window with damaged ceiling...
Main room...
Main room ceiling...
More damaged ceiling...
Obligatory chair...
And another...
Other side of room...
And before I left...
I didn't stay too long, perhaps 10-15 mins. I was on my own and it was eerily quiet there. It didn't help that there were drips of water coming in so I kept turning around expecting someone to be there or catching glimpses of water moving out of the corner of my eye.
The hanger I originally went to see is completely sealed at the front. I didn't go round the back, was getting tired. As for the rest of Llandow, there are quite a few old buildings not in use, although most of them are used as part of the Llandow Ind. Est now on the site. I'll be making return trips in the near future.
