James Watt sugar wharehouse, greenock, feb 08

Technically the first site on our scottish roadtrip back in feburary.
Mykal (again driving ), Shepy, Markus, and myself, also in attendance was SonorG.

As we were on our way to inverkip last time we saw this and thought it was worth a look's, and it was! Inverkip was rained off due to bad weather (I mean really bad), so we headed back here!

Exploring wise, it was brief, and fun (apart from the rain) to find a way into the more interesting parts, but alas, we didn't want to get filthy climbing over stuff at the beginning of a roadtrip, so I made do with what I saw in one of the 5areas.
Theres no HDR on these images, pretty much how it was + 10points of contrast.

again, just contrast, no hdr, I had to drop the saturation about 25points because it was that violently coloured in here!


the noticeboard, there were remains of all sorts of saftey notices stained onto the wall


was literally a 10min explore whilst the other guys stood in teh rain, but glad I did it as I really liked the results!

Is this the place on the main road out of Greenock next to riverside?
your photography is excellent the first not hdr shot with green crate is my favourite. has there been a fire in there?

would imagine there has been a fire in each of the segments, as the roof is compeltly missing in some place and theres barely any glass left, only the brick sized solid glass blocks above teh high walkways.

Now that's my kind of place...no trash, but lots of nice brickwork and interesting windows. Love the look of the building itself from your exterior shot...looks like a huge site. Excellent photos, BM.

ooooooooooooooh I agree with Foxy, I do like this. Love those huge windows, and love the colours of the water on the floor next to the beams. Excellent pics. the place looks huge, I really do like this.

Re JW Sugarhouse

Just a wee heads up on the sugarhouse...its apparently gettin converted into houses or possibly a museum for shipbuilding heritage...there was a fire a couple years back just AFTER it got planning permission refused for housing. i used to play in the sugar piles when i was a kid...u used to be able to walk around the whole dock and get invited onto ships to look around...then the council moved in sold the land as always so now its kinda hard to get access behind the walls...sad really

Ah nice one! I've always wanted to see the place "The Sugar Boat" (Captayannis) was trying to get to! That boat's been a familiar sight for me since I was a lad visiting Helensburgh every school holiday.
