In april this year, i went to have a closer look at somewhere i've driven past loads of times and allways wondered about,
(any further info on this place would be great)
an aircraft watchtower, i'm assuming WW2,
It's located at SK226 552
view inside, lower floor room....
view to the west,
the pic below is of a small room at the top of the steps, which are very close together (just 1 brick apart) and just deep enough to get your toes onto, handrail virtually falling off...
the view to the west is great, from a small window in the tiny upstairs shelter room, a round hole in the ceiling corner may be (i'm just guessing) where a chimney from a stove may have exited, i can vouch that it gets BLEAK up here in winter, as a mate used to rent a workshop nearby,
below is the upper platform area with some sort of mount in the centre for a table or viewing scope??
finally, this view of the tower, from the nearby road. as much of this is un-educated guesswork, any suggestions, corrections, on my thoughts about this great site are very welcome! thanks for looking.
