just a flying visit [fogive the pun] managed to get a few shots.
not much left of the runways, peri track etc.
most of the buildings are derelict but the hanger and larger buildings
are used for storage by a farmer.

i'l leave that to the military boys & girls.

apologies to cardiffrail for a similer set of photo's, i didnt realise you had already posted on this location, sorry!

You went a lot further than I did. Great pics mate. That vaulted shelter you did, is that the one in the woodland about half a mile to the north west of the site or is there another?? Also interesting to see that the observation post (a particular type used at aifrields, may have been called a 'battle command' or similar) is still a tad damp.

A very interesting place. Loving those arched metal corrugated sheds. The lights are good to see too. Thanks for sharing. :)

hi cardiffrail, the vaulted shelter is the one just to the right of the big black blister hanger as you face it,does that make sense? i've confused meself now!
the shot of the lights in the o.p was taken with me standing on one leg whilst
reaching into the pitch black room and trying not to fall in the water,it was worth it though

Looks like an interesting explore. Glad you got the pictures sorted mate. The vaulted shelters are similar to the ones at an old airfield me and Sausage went to. I wonder if they were a standard design?

They're called Stanton shelters, they're an exceptionally standard design and would have been found at pretty much every dispersal site at any WW2 era airfield :)

Hi ricasso

Fab pictures. The blister hangar in your pictures has been taken down completely now.....more and more of the place is dissapearing.

The buildings that still survive seem to make up most of the domestic site and used by the local farmer for storage. The WAAF site still exists and is tucked away out of sight. It is accessable from the footpath that crosses the airfield and eventually joins up with the road going down through the woods.

:)

I know.......it really is a shame. I was really shocked, because I drive past it quite often and have done for many years. I did a bit of a double take as I drove past after it had gone! :(
