I had a quick trip out to Branscombe to look for the beach defences, which I didn't have time to do when visiting RAF Branscombe Home Chain Radar Station. The defences at the beach inlet comprised of two pillboxes and Anti-tank emplacements.

The first pillbox was easily spotted as it had a prime position overlooking the beach. I didn't go into the field to take the photos because it was surrounded by cows, so I just took a photo as and when they ambled out of shot. I think this is a T23, but without the blast-wall shielded entrance. Brick shuttering.

I looked for the second pillbox, which was supposed to be situated on the opposite cliff, but couldn't find it anywhere, which was a shame.

According to the Defence of Britain database there is a short section left of an Anti-tank line. I went to the spot indicated on Google earth and found these Tetrahedron, otherwise know as Dragon's Teeth. Got really excited about this as I'd never seen any for myself before. Now used as chain railing.

A final parting shot of the area. The house just right of the centre is situated just above the pillbox.

   I haven't heard that one before. I'll have to remember that!

Good stuff foxy, its nice that they have found a use for those Dragon's Teeth:)

Cheers K Al. :) I'm glad I saw it on the DOB database, otherwise I wouldn't have known what they were originally. It makes me wonder how much stuff there is around that we see and haven't a clue about!

Not sure why they really bothered with defences like dragon's teeth up our way. We'd REALLY need to have been asleep if we didn't notice a landing force heading towards Aberdeenshire. :D

And dragon's teeth in front of the sand dunes? Was that just in case the Germans invented a tank that could climb a vertical sand bank 30 foot high????? :p

Some interesting stuff, like looking round this kind of thing. Thanks foxy :)
