Whitsand battery is now a holiday park - tents and caravans and the like, although the battery is still respected and maintained. i believe it was buit to defend against landings on whitsand bay - the nearby Polhorn fort was found to be totally useless, as its angle of fire was usefull to fire upon the beach however invading ships could shell polhorn at will unchallenged
many interesting features remain, and all underground rooms can be visited with a little effort...
I've now visited all of the remaining dockyard defence coastal batteries....
enjoy!
