Whitsand battery is now a holiday park - tents and caravans and the like, although the battery is still respected and maintained. i believe it was buit to defend against landings on whitsand bay - the nearby Polhorn fort was found to be totally useless, as its angle of fire was usefull to fire upon the beach however invading ships could shell polhorn at will unchallenged :lol:

many interesting features remain, and all underground rooms can be visited with a little effort...

I've now visited all of the remaining dockyard defence coastal batteries....

enjoy!

Really nice pics especially the sillouette shot! What's left of the battery does look well cared for, good to see! :):)

Nice find there :)

Its strange how some always end up as holiday parks, there were a few over here the same, but long gone, and some are still here.

Have a chalet on the cliff here. There are a few smaller batteries nearby with gun emplacements etc, lots of little places around the coast you probably wouldn't know were there!

Or you could take 10 seconds to google it yourself and save somebody the job of doing it for you!

well as sneakk explained locations as being "you wouldnt know they were there" and the fact ive looked into these batteries very extensively - i didnt think it was much to ask....

thanks for your helpful comments tho - i must of logged on to 28DL by mistake:confused:

Well the first result on google gives you the grid ref!

thanks for looking

the first link is tregantle fort & firing range,

the second is whitsand battery hence this report!:)

Ironically the grid ref on the first result on google *is* whitsand battery, but it didnt look like a battery to me as I didnt look close enough, so a quick scout round took me to tregantle close by, duh!

Whitsand Bay Caravan Park looks like an interesting place to stay, maybe I can persuade my wife to go for a long weekend there if we ever get any holiday weather.

yes m8, it would be an amazing place to stay.... theres many coastal batteries, aa batteries, pill boxes, fuel depot, tunnels - all sorts within a few min walk!
