Had a trip to see St George's..

Grade II listed..
Opened in 1818 to hold 120 patients.
1879 saw a new wing built for another 90 patients.
1884 saw another expansion to the site, including workshops and a bakery.
Eventually it held around 870 patients
The site closed mid 90's.

Some areas have been demolished already ready for the new housing development.

ace pics mate as always, i went to stafford last saturday to fing this place but i couldnt find it:(

Taaa lenny :)

Not sure where it was exactly (a search here or Google should bring something up)
i do know it was very close to a prison if that helps

Great work Chewy! I like the hazy shot of the external stairway. Atmospheric.

Good balance of shots there - i take it the chapel is a bit too dodgy to get to now?

the chapel was ok to get to when we went couple months ago

couldnt get to the watertower:mad:

Thanks all :)

not sure if the record murial was there before it shut, or was added after
looks like it was there before it shut to me, there was a shark one too.

i didn't get to the chapel or tower bit, we wanted to see other places that day in the same area.
also went to R.A.O.C Marchington (report in the military section).
Also wanted to see a train graveyard, but couldn't find it.
We saw a derelict place, so had a look.
it turned out to be a stone merchants type place, it was pitch black and the pics were naff.
i may add them if i can sort them to look a tad better

Matt - did you get the pic of the names ? :D
