Really good shots Mike....you know what,this place has just become my new obsession now Pyestock has slipped in my Explore top charts!I need to see admin from the front and see round the base of the tower again.

Because of the fact I have VERY LITTLE time on my hands, I probably will never get to see this. But in case time was ever on my side, what's the closest railway station to the Asylum?

I guess you could cycle, not a bad idea. I don't know any other route than the A roads though :S. Perhaps the cuckoo trail (old railway line - now footpath/cycle path) would be a better way.

I know someone that walks up the cuckoo trail to hellingly.

The first time I went to Hellingly, I walked there from polegate and back again! It was well worth it. If your going to walk or cycle I recommend going the cuckoo trail route it's probably slightly shorter than going by road.

Not referring to security as in guards here, but if I do go down here and enter, is it secure enough to explore?
If you're wondering about how much I weigh, i'm 15 stone. Is it best not to enter if i'm of a heavy build?

Hellingly is a dangerous place, but anyone who goes there and treads carefully should be OK.

I'm much heavier/fatter that you, just more floors creak or break!

The point is that I REALLY want to go down here, and probably COULD go IF my Dad is actually willing to join me, if we went down to East Sussex to visit one of the preserved railways there i.e. Bluebell or maybe on a cycle ride on the Cuckoo trail (we love cycling).
If I DO go on my own (without a family member/friend/someone off here), I will be cycling from Polegate along the trail. The reason I'm asking is because I don't want to be 5 miles away from any form of help/hope of getting home with a broken limb or two.

Besides, my Dad will NOT drive all the way down from Oxford to Hellingly to pick me up because I've busted my ass. So is it reallly worth a trip from Oxford?

metal-rules - i think we've given you enough advice for you to make your mind up now.

Well then, I have decided to come down next year during one of my Holidays as part of my Dad and I doing more derelict/pulled up railway walks/cycles. Only problem is that he says I can go to Hellingly but he won't join me. Bit scary, but I'll do it.

If anyone wants to join me, PM me.

sorry another ressurection. near polegate you say!! i have an aunt who lives in polegate on the back of the cuckoo trail, may have to go and stay a few days.....
