This is a prewar Shell petrol kiosk. A mix of Art Deco style in the windows and doors,
and some traditional Malayan flair in the roof, including a "Kayu tunjuk langit", which is
a short pole at the apex of the roof to signify spiritual strength.

As far as I know this may be the only kiosk of this type left in Malaysia. It has the potential
to be a nice small and affordable little restoration project, but with such little interest in
conservation and history out here, its future prospects don't look good.

The doors and windows were locked up tight, but a hole in one of the windows allowed
for an arm and camera to be poked through to capture some interior shots.

What a great find and great shots, its such a shame places like this are being left to rot.

Well done again for the find.

Thats the nicest petrol station i've ever seen, better that the glued together plastic we have hear!:) looks like you've had a nice day for it to, I'd forgotten that the sky was blue:skeptical:

it's such a lovely wee place :) it's like somebody saved a bit of the west pier & plopped it in Malaysia...I'd like it in my garden.

Cheers Raz,

Class post as always. I want it as a garden shed :)

Wow :) that is a stunning little building. It could also pass for a small train station at some end of line stop on a country railway. You'd think that Shell would preserve it as a memento of it's presence and history in Malaysia
