Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but its not owned by any of the heritage people and its definately rural.
Whorlton Castle was stayed at by Edward 2nd in the 1320's whilst hunting and was held by royalists during Cromwells time in charge. In 2005 there were plans by the owners to convert it back into a residence.
It now consists of the gatehouse, and behind that the cellars of an earlier castle.
A notch beside the gate - possibly to put a bar across to lock the gate?
The walls are eroding well now
The cellars of the older castle look like they are in almost constant use - lots of cans and it smelt of wee
