As we are starting to see more and more reports on the speedy demise of Cane Hill, I thought I would share some photos and experiences from a time where the place was still a maze of hidden locked rooms, dodgy corridors and overgrown courtyards - where decay was the biggest cause of demolition.

As some will remember, a while back I put up a report that covered 2 and a half years of exploration (March '03 to August '05). Despite having returned to the hospital a few times since that report, I have chosen to write up a visit from March 2005 because it was very different to most.

Visited with Slidingloopz, photos taken on the old faithful Fuji S5500.

Site was approached from the former Male side, and almost immediately I found a cupboard that had been taken over by bees.

We gradually made our way round the site until one of us found an open upstairs window that led onto the roof - it looked shabby but solid.

This new found idea of corridor hopping provided a new perspective of the site, and eventually led us to the projector booth - (http://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/showthread.php?t=7275&highlight=projector+room).

From there we had a great view from the heart of the hospital, unfortunately we also spied more corridors to hop across - so we did!

Next stop was the pharmacy, having been blocked off from the main corridor we had never seen inside before.

Once we were back upstairs, admin had been spotted - and we headed over with a few photos along the way.

A trek across the undergrowth led us to Vanbrugh/Vincent.

And finally, Slidingloopz checks the time before we leave - this clock was only a few minutes out!

I wish I'd ha a chance to see it pre-demo but such is life.

Can you remember where that last photograph was taken?
What block or floor?

I think I may hav a photo of the same room but halfway through demo work.

Thanks for your comments MD and Power Junkie

Had to look it up, but the last photo is taken in Guy Ward - ground floor

Brilliant

I really love to see the pre-demo stuff...there are some great shots looking down onto the corridors that appeal to me..if you have more, then I for one will be happy to view them.

Regards from Stu

Cheers Stu, might be able to sort something out for when we meet up.

Power Junkie - this is the outside of Guy Ward ;)

thanks soo much for putting them up me and winchester took little look last weekend it was just depressing to see the hill in that state tbh. it was a kick up the ass we take sites for granted then when they are gone we mope about it i needed that kick to get me off my ass n start not taking things for granted and explore every thing to the full

As much as I dislike hospital explores I found it refreshing to see a set of pictures that show the exterior of Cane Hill, to me an oft overlooked part of exploring pictures. Nice one, Mr Bones.

M :)

great set of pictures mr.bones.
great to see many unusual rooftop shots, and some unseen views of the projector room.
i didnt know about those large external buttresses attached to the admin side of the main hall either, it was quiet fancy the brickwork to the hall. shame i never got to see it before it burnt down.

THE ODEON

Great stuff Marlon, Nice to see some older pics.
