History-
The original Elster Jeavons Ltd was founded in 1919. In 1920, it became a Private Company. It was made a Public Company in 1956.
1961 - Manufacturers of gas pressure governors and ancillary equipment, also domestic copper tube fittings. They had 124 employees on site at this time. They were a major player in the UK gas industry, manufacturing taps, regulators, flowmeters and other bits and pieces for over 70 years.
Elster Jeavons was the first company in the UK to use pressure die casting techniques for gas pressure regulators.
The company is now part of a MUCH bigger group with worldwide offices and it was simply not viable to keep this place open. The group manufactures a full range of gas pressure regulators and safety devices for both natural and LP gas industries. Elster Jeavons still market turbine, rotary and ultrasonic meters within the UK.
In June/July of 2006, Elster Jeavons closed its gas and water meter factory in Tipton with the loss of 150 jobs, in order to transfer production to Slovakia.
