Pillboxes aren't my usual thing, but with three within spitting distance it'd be rude not to!
They're on the fantastically named road "Adrenturers Drove"

A Barn owl was roosting in this one, who came flying out when I showed up!

Not often you get to see pillboxes from pillboxes!

Saw this on the way home. I'm 50 miles inland, and these are fields! It's like this for four months of the year!

Thought it had to be them when you mentioned 3 in the same place :) Had a wander round them about this time last year.

DoB database has them down as anti-tank guns.

TYPE FW3/28: S0004806
TYPE FW3/28: S0004808
TYPE FW3/28A: S0004807

I'd have said they're designed to defend against a river based attack into the cluster of air bases in the area though - the 28A being the central main gun and the others giving peripheral coverage?

Great pictures Urban X,

The big one is definitely a 28A but I have a suspicion the others are VMG emplacements due to the large blast wall. Can you shed some light on the size of the embrasures in the two smaller ones and are they at chest height rather than ground level?

Cheers! They're just at 'normal' chest height. I tried to find out what type they were from the Defence of Britain KML file, but my Google Earth appears to be up the swanny at the mo!

Thanks mate. That definitely makes them misidentified on the DoB then as it has them as Type 28's. These are VMG Emplacements. The blast wall is the give away on Google Earth. There would have been a gun table behind the embrasure too I expect?
