Lovely day in North Yorkshire today, and I have had my eye on a couple of quarries I spotted on Google Earth a while back, so off in the motor with mini TK421 for an afternoon of nettles and two scares!
First up - Spiker Hill Quarry, West Ayton.
On Google Earth this looks live, but sadly it's now derelict. Entrance was none the less interesting as there was activity around the entrance road that leads down to the quarry itself. So we decided to take a walk through a rape seed field (christ that stuff stinks), and crossed a few fences for scare number one, rounding this dry stone wall up pops a wild deer, I don't know who was the most suprised, no photo though, those buggers are fast
Entrance singage:
Lovey old Ruston Bycurus:
So my lad says to me, 'whats them dad', 'teasels, they are sharp' I replied, over he trots, followed by 'ow!', why do I bother?
Glove:
part of an old stone crusher:
Hmmmm.......Red button, must press it........
Paperwork
Then on the way out, this lot!
Onto the next quarry across the other side of the valley at Flixton, this one was a live one:
Big pile of salt for Scarborough fish and chip industries:
Bedford TK
Obviously ex army judging by the hole in the roof:
Stone crusher gadgetry
Arm:
Plant:
Meeeeeow:
A large iron arrow, how random:
Danger, Danger......High Voltage:
Cupboard of potions:
Nice old weighbridge:
Washers in the sunlight:
Just as we were about to leave, scare number 2, there seemed to be some sort of security van parked at the entrance, oh sh*t, busted? Nah, on closer inspection it was a bloke from the AA having a kip, he was quite suprised when we bowled out over the fence
Must be off, have a date with a barbecue and some red wine!!
Thanks for looking
