This 15th-century Castle, a Z-plan tower house, belonged to William Douglas, 8th Earl of Douglas. The castle passed to the Crawfords, and then the Rutherfords. It was extensively rebuilt in later centuries, and from at least 50 years ago has been owned by a family business.

50 years ago they got a licence to turn the basement into a dungeon bar, in the 80's they built a restaurant in the floor above. The other areas were used as living accommodation. After the businesses failed 20 years ago it was locked up and left to decay. Such a shame considering its age and heritage.

I visited 3 separate times with a fellow explorer not in this forum. Although its abandoned, it is checked on by the owner who drives round occasionally. Apart from the rot getting in and some obvious prowling by thieves it looks pretty much left the way it was locked up and I'm not aware of the tour bus explorers having been there.

Being a bit of a geek I wondered if the "Star Fighter" arcade game could be refurbished!

Good shots - the bar is neat although the rest looks a bit squalid. This place has cropped up a couple of times recently on Facebook groups so the tourbus may have found it, unfortunately.

Could do with a renovation. It would make a nice holiday let. I like the bar in your first shot. Looks like it could be converted into a man-cave. Lots of beer around (mmmm Beer!).
