I had been eyeing this crane for a while - it has been there for roughly a month or two, and recently I decided - why not have a crack at it?!
It is very small as tower cranes go, but this isn't London, so we don't get many down here. This was my first crane and I loved it! After the initial fear had worn off I felt quite relaxed (luckily there was no wind!). Some dodgy moments as I watched the occasional police car drive past down below - or a few random drunks! This was a spur of the moment thing, so I went alone at about midnight. Apologies for some of the pictures, hopefully I can do better if I visit a crane again!

At this point I contemplated climbing the further 30 odd feet to where the red light is (any crane buffs know what this part is called?) - after finding the ladder was actually quite stable, unlike the various walkways :eek: I ventured up. I felt a lot more exposed up here as I didn't have as much cover, and I was illuminated by the aircraft warning light!

And a self portrait to conclude the photographs!

that was really dangerous, dont do it again.

I know - that's why I loved it! I thought as part of the Urbex community we all know what we are comfortable with? I wasn't endangering any one else, and you would have to be a moron to fall off of this thing.

:lol::lol:

I'm a total acrophobe but, once I got over my toes curling, I rather enjoyed your pics. Well done. :)

I don't have a fear of heights (I'd love to skydive) - but it takes a while to get used to it up there. At first I was paranoid the crane was going to blow over or something. But after I got over that, it was actually quite tranquil up there! :)

it takes a explorer with big nuts to do these cranes and fair play but not my cup of tea some one posted a report a while ago if i remember where a explorer fell off one of these and perished...
but nice pics mate i would rather stick to builds myself

There were infrared sensors on the perimeter of the site - but they weren't turned on, possibly dummies! When I reached the crane I just gave the bottom ladder a good shake trying to set off any possible alarms (better then than when I'm half way up the crane and a crowd is gathering on the street!).

Looking back I do wonder what the hell I was thinking. But I just did it without thinking about it too much - and now I think I am hooked on cranes! (Took me a few seconds to notice the pun there :lol:)
